Music is Life.  My life is filled with music. I ALWAYS listen to music when I create. It’s as necessary as any other tool. I thought I’d share these with you to give you an insight as to what goes on in my studio/workflow. (The downloadable file is a .zip file in Dropbox)

You’ll notice a varied mix of tunes and a strong Hip Hop presence. Why so much Hip-Hop Kenji? Because I LOVE HIP-HOP!

In fact, come take a lap with me on the Hip-Hop track.

This is where I let my creativity run wild.

Here, each beat is a step. Good rhythm? Then no one’s trippin.

I’m not a poet I just pun a lot. Basically, I’m trying to say that very often my creative process matches music in the same manner two runners periodically match steps. The music becomes my pace-keeper making it easier for me to take steps forward in my creative process (video editing, drawing, painting). I KNOW you know what I mean, right?! And for me, Hip-Hop music is so intuitively easy to keep up with.

Although many Hip-Hop artist promote the idea that money is power, compared to the power of art – a person expressing imagination and skill often to the point of engaging another persons emotions – the power of money falls by the wayside.

Hmm? How so?

A young poor kid sees rich Hip Hop artist and decides to be just like them. Now this kid is an adult making way on the Hip-Hop artists glamorous road to fame, using skill and imagination to get lots and lots of money to have lots and lots of stuff, all by making music.

Yet, it’s interesting how the real value of this process can’t be heard.

Wow, that’s deep Kenji!

Music, no matter the genre, has the power to drive people. The destinations are as varied as there are drivers. Who am I to decide what destination is right for another person? I can barely decide where I want to go!

So, I focus on my destination. I listen to others who have ‘made it’ to their destinations.

Who cares if we march to a different drum, as long as we keep marching on!
